A processor fee is rarely one percentage. It may combine a percentage, fixed amount, payment-method surcharge, currency conversion, dispute fee, refund treatment, and optional monthly charge.

Start with your transaction mix

Export a representative month and group transactions by:

  • payment method and card region;
  • average amount;
  • one-time or recurring;
  • currency;
  • refunds and disputes;
  • in-person or online channel.

Apply each provider's current rate to the same mix. A fixed fee weighs more heavily on small transactions, while a percentage matters more on large products.

Use official, current pricing

As of 28 July 2026, Stripe's public Denmark pricing lists standard EEA cards at 1.5% + 1.80 kr. Its local-method information lists MobilePay at 1.5% + 2.80 kr plus a 35 kr monthly fee. Stripe also states that original processing fees are not returned for standard refunds. Verify all figures and conditions on Stripe's current Denmark pricing and local-payment-method pricing before relying on them.

Other processors use different structures and negotiated terms. Request a written, dated quote in the market where you operate.

Ask about the edges

Confirm:

  • international and commercial cards;
  • currency conversion;
  • recurring-payment and mandate behavior;
  • authentication failures;
  • refunds and partial refunds;
  • disputes and evidence submission;
  • payout timing and reserves;
  • platform or application markup;
  • export and reconciliation fields.

Compare integration cost

Payments must reconcile to bookings, products, refunds, taxes, and payouts. Include staff time spent investigating mismatches and the cost of any separate hardware or subscription.

Understand portability

Payment credentials are highly controlled and may not move between providers or platform accounts. Ask who owns the merchant relationship, what happens at contract exit, and how active subscriptions would be re-established.

Keep the model reproducible

Save the source month, rate sheet date, currency, assumptions, and formulas. Re-run the model when transaction mix or provider terms change.
